Invitație pentru a trasa linii în scuar, cu ajutorul corpului și a mașinilor

Acțiunea constă în acoperirea scuarului din str. București 68, din centrul Chișinăului cu coli de hârtie albă, pe toată suprafața lui. În acest scuar, altfel numit B68 – zonă liberă / spațiu de artă, este instalat, din 2009, Apartament-ul Deschis, o piesă de artă de Ștefan Rusu. Aici au loc diferite evenimente publice cu caracter cultural/social și/sau artistic. Inițial, scuarul a fost proiectat ca zonă pietonală, iar în prezent acesta este încărcat cu mașini, chiar și în timpul activităților artistice care au loc aici, devenind parte a componentă a locului.

Între orele 6.00 și 18.00, pe 31 Mai 2013, acest scuar va fi înlocuit cu o suprafață albă, care va fi umplută, mai întâi, cu atmosfera scuarului, urmele luminii și, aproape sigur, de urmele corpurilor trecătorilor, a umbrelor lor, și de urmele lăsate de mașini.

Mișcarea luminii, a corpurilor, a mașinilor va fi surprinsă de suprafața albă a hârtiei și în fotografii. Hârtia și imaginile vor fi incluse în expoziția, care va avea loc la Chișinău, la Casa Zemstvei, la începutul lui iulie 2013.

Această acțiune este parte a unui proiect de cercetare multimedia de Artă-Fotografică, intitulat: De la Abis spre Deschidere – Acțiune Fotografică, Performance și Împlinire Supremă.

Materiale: 552 m2 de hîrtie albă, 2208 cuie, ciocan, foarfece, cameră foto digitală.

invitation to trace lines in the square with the help of the body and of the cars

This action consists of the placement/setting of white paper over the entire area of the Bucuresti 68 Square, in downtown Chisinau. In this square also called B68 – Free Zone / Art Space is permanently installed, since 2009, the “flat space” an artistic work of Stefan RUSU. Here are running several public events whit a cultural/social and/or an artistic character. Initially the square was designed for the pedestrians and now one can see how it is being filled by the cars, even during the artistic program that is taking place, thus making them part of the physical setting.

Between the six in the morning and six o’clock in the afternoon of May 31st 2013, this square will be replaced with a white void that will be filled, first by the atmosphere of the square, the traces of the light, and almost for sure by the traces of the bodies of the passers, of their shadows, of their marks, and of the car-machine-body marks.

The movement of the light, of the bodies and of the cars will be recorded either on the surface of the paper and in photographic images. Paper and images will be included in the exhibition to be held in Chisinau in Casa Zemstvei, in beginning of July 2013.

This action is part of the research project in Multimedia Arts – Photography, titled: From the Abyss to Open – Photographic Act, Performance and Supreme Fullness.

Ana NOBRE
Ourique, 1984. Currently attends the second year of a PHD in Art and Multimedia at the Faculty of Fine Arts – University of Lisbon, with a grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
Master in Multimedia Art – Installation and Performance and graduated in Communication Design from the same university.
Develops and presents regularly work in Portugal, Italy and Moldova.

Esta acção consiste na colocação/fixação de papel branco sobre toda a área da Praça Bucuresti 68, no centro de Chisinau. Nesta praça também designada por B68 – zona livre / espaço de arte, encontra-se permanentemente instalado desde 2009 o “Flat Space” obra do artista Stefan RUSU. Neste local são dinamizados vários eventos públicos de carácter cultural, social e artístico. Se a praça inicialmente se destinaria aos peões, os carros teimam em preenchê-la mesmo quando ocorrem estas acções, fazendo assim estes, parte do cenário físico dos mesmos.

Entre as seis horas da manhã e as seis horas da tarde do dia trinta e um de Maio de dois mil e treze esta praça estará coberta por um vazio branco que será preenchido, antes de mais pelo desenho da atmosfera, da luz, e muito provavelmente pelo desenho dos corpos dos transeuntes, das suas sombras, das suas marcas, assim como das marcas das máquinas-carro-corpo.

Este desenho da luz, dos corpos e das máquinas ficará registado quer na superfície do papel, quer em imagens fotográficas. Papel-desenho e imagens que serão posteriormente integradas na exposição a realizar em Chisinau, no Museum Zemstvei, no início do próximo mês de Julho.

Esta acção faz parte do projecto de investigação em Arte Multimédia – Fotografia, intitulado: Do Abismo ao Aberto – Acto Fotográfico, Performance e Plenitude Suprema.

Materiais: 552 m2 de papel branco 70g; 2208 pregos de várias dimensões; um martelo; uma tesoura; máquina fotográfica digital.

Pe 22 februarie 2013, la ora 14:00 vă invităm să vă alăturați noii noastre acțiuni și să ne ajutați să distribuim fluturașe cu mesajul “NU LĂSA MAȘINA SĂ-ȚI OCUPE LOCUL !! / NU LĂSA MAȘINA SĂ TE REPREZINTE!” pe mașinile parcate neregulamentar. Pe această cale dorim să atragem atenția asupra conflictelor existente în imediata noastră apropiere, în contextul urban, iar mașinele parcate neregulamentar constituie una din aceste probleme. Pe de o parte dorim ca chișinăuienii să se pătrundă de această problemă și să devină mai conștienți, iar pe de altă parte ne-ar plăcea să aflăm ce cred șoferii despre acest lucru.

De aici și aici puteți descărca fluturașul pe care îl vom distribui vinerea asta.

Prin acest APEL la ACȚIUNE vom inaugura noua expoziție la APARTAMENT DESCHIS cu titlul B68 – Revendicări Tipărite care prezintă documentația mesajelor distribuite anterior pe parbrizul mașinilor parcate neregulamentar. Această campanie este posibilă datorită efortului depus de voluntarii europeni care au petrecut mult timp în Chișinău lucrînd la pregătirea ei.

Despre expoziție

Spre deosebire de orașele din europa de vest, Chișinăul a beneficiat de spații publice deschise și accesibile. Perioada de tranziție ce a urmat declarației de independență a Republicii Moldova avea să modifice radical această situație.

În urma procesului de privatizare, care s-a petrecut în lipsă de transparență și în afara unui control, suprafața spațiilor publice a fost redusă drastic, determinând dispariția multor locuri cu o menire publică, cum ar fi terenurile de joc, parcurile și grădinile din zonele rezidențiale. La fel a avut de suferit infrastructura culturală și cea destinată sportului – unele stadioane au fost demolate, iar altele au fost transformate în piețe sau parcări pentru mașini. Acest lucru a fost urmat de o reducere a spațiilor verzi în favoarea unor noi blocuri destinate pentru oficii, birouri și locuințe private.

În acest context, lipsită de resurse și din cauza situației sale încă nesigure, autoritatea publică locală se poziționează mai curînd în calitate de negociator între interesul public și interesul investitorului privat, deseori aprobînd scenarii care transformă spatiul public urban într-un platou reprezentativ pentru puterea politică sau într-un paravan publicitar pentru posesorii de capital, în consecință fiind excluse multe alte grupuri subreprezentate.

În urma acestor procese scuarul din str. București 68 din Chișinău a fost transformat și el într-o parcare de mașini ilegală, alături de multe alte locuri pietonale accesibile în oraș, iar funcția sa publică nu mai pare a fi relevantă pentru autoritățile publice locale, dispărînd în umbra intereselor private.

În acest context au fost întreprinse diverse activități în căutarea unor soluții, răspunsuri, idei …, printre care întîlnirile grupului de lectură Spații Publice în Post-Socialism, coordonat de V. Sprînceană, atelierul Democrația în Oraș și campania de distribuție a fluturașelor B68 – Revendicări Tipărite.

Prin proiectul B68 – Revendicări Tipărite doritorii sînt încurajați să conceapă noi mesaje și să le distribuie pe parbrizul mașinilor, formînd un cadru de comunicare între chișinăuieni despre modul în care partajăm orașul fără să prejudiciem pietonii, despre nevoia protejării spațiilor publice și identificării unor noi alternative pentru a ne deplasa în Chișinău.

Următoarele mesaje au fost deja distribuite, iar altele așteaptă să le vină rîndul:

“O ŢARĂ DEZVOLTATĂ NU ESTE CEA ÎN CARE SĂRACII AU O MAŞINĂ, DAR UNDE CEI BOGAŢI MERG CU TRANSPORTUL PUBLIC” – autorul acestui mesaj este fostul primar al Bogotei Enrique Peñalosa, care ne-a inspirat la crearea acestui fluturaș. Ne-am propus să încurajăm toată lumea să utilizeze transportul public drept un mijloc de transport mai accesibil și convenabil, mai ecologic și mai social.

“POŢI AJUNGE AICI ȘI CU TRANSPORTUL PUBLIC” – acsest mesaj vine să reamintească oamenilor că în Chișinău, astăzi, poți merge aproape peste tot doar cu transportul public, și nu mai e nevoie de mașină!

“VĂ MULŢUMIM CĂ NE-AŢI BLOCAT CALEA. AICI E ZONĂ PIETONALĂ!” – de această dată eram în căutarea mașinilor parcate pe trotuar, care blocau calea pietonilor, a părinților cu cărucioare pentru copii, bătrânilor care merg braț la braț sau a cuplurilor ce se țin de mâini, și nu doar calea noastră.

Intenția noastră este să obținem un dialog constructiv între pietoni și șoferi. Noi credem că împreună se pot identifica modalități de folosire a spațiilor publice disponibile, și transformarea lor în spații publice inclusive pentru noi toți.

On February 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. we invite you to join our next action and help us to distribute another no-parking flyer “DON’T HIDE BEHIND YOUR CAR!“. This way we would like to bring attention to the existing in our immediate urban surroundings conflicts, the cars illegally parked in the pedestrian zones being one of them. On one hand we would like to make the local inhabitants conscious about this problem, and on the other hand we would like to learn about drivers’ reaction.

Through this CALL for ACTION we inaugurate our next exhibition at FLAT SPACE called B68 – Flying Claims, that offers a documentation of previously distributed messages on the irregularly parked cars. This campaign was made possible due to European volunteers who spent many days in Chisinau, helping us to develop this campaign.

About the exhibition

Unlike cities from Western Europe, Chisinau benefited of open and accessible public spaces. The transition period following the declaration of independence of Republic of Moldova was going to radically change this situation.

Further to the privatisation process that lacked transparency and took place without any control, the public spaces area was dramatically reduced, which lead to the disappearance of many spaces with public functions such as playgrounds, parks and gardens in residential areas. Cultural and sports infrastructure was also altered – some sports grounds were demolished and others were turned into markets or car parks. It was followed by a reduction of green areas in favour of the new buildings for offices and private flats.

In this context, lacking resources and due to a yet uncertain situation, the local public authority rather positions itself as negotiator between public interest and the interest of the private investor, often endorsing scenarios turning urban space into a representative field for the political power or into an advertising board for capital owners, thus excluding many other underrepresented groups.

As a follow up the square situated on Bucuresti Street 68 in Chisinau has turned into an illegal parking zone for cars, along with many other accessible pedestrian spaces through out the city, while its original public function doesn’t represent a value anymore to the local public authorities, disappearing in the shadow of the private interests.

Considering this context different activities were initiated and realized in order to find a solution, an answer, an idea …, among which were the Public Space in Post-Socialism reading group coordinated by V. Sprinceana, Democracy in the City workshop & the B68 – Flying Claims flyer distribution campaign.

With the project B68 – Flying Claims we encourage volunteers to conceive and distribute new messages on car windows, aiming to open new fields of communication among Chisinau inhabitants about the way we share the city without obstructing pedestrians, the need to protect public spaces and to search for alternative ways of transportation in the city.

The following messages were already distributed and there are many more to come:

“A DEVELOPED COUNTRY IS NOT A PLACE WHERE THE POOR HAVE CARS. IT’S WHERE THE RICH GO WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT” – the former mayor of Bogotá, Enrique Peñalosa, the author of the mes- sage, inspired us for this flyer. We want to stress out that public transportation is a way for everybody to move around the city in an affordable, more environmently friendly and social way.

“YOU COULD HAVE ALSO COME HERE WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT” – with this message we want to make people aware that in Chisinau you can go almost everywhere with public transport nowadays. You actually don’t need a car!

“THANK YOU FOR BLOCKING OUR WAY. THIS IS A PEDESTRIAN AREA” – this time we were looking for the cars parked on the sidewalks, blocking the path of pedestrians, of parents with pushchairs, old people arm in arm or couples holding hands, and not just our own way.

Our intention is to achieve constructive dialogue between the car users and pedestrians. We believe that together we can manage unoccupied free spaces; we can create a public space for all off us.

Pe an ce trece tot mai mulți oameni urcă pe bicicletă drept un mijloc alternativ de transport, care permite să te deplasezi rapid și liber. Cei care circula cu bicicleta în Chișinău se pot confrunta cu diferite probleme, printre care se regăsește și lipsa posibilității de ați parca bicicleta într-un loc sigur. Începînd cu 14 octombrie 2012 scuarul din str. București 68 își va avea propria sa parcare pentru biciclete oferită de chișinăuieni, în calitate de cadou de ziua orașului. Pentru a inaugura acest fapt vă încurajăm să veniți cu bicicleta și să o lăsați în parcarea din B68, și să vizionați alături de noi fime documentare legate de ciclism.

Every year there are more and more people using bicycles in Chisinau as an alternative way of transportation that allows allows them to move freely and pretty fast around. As a cyclist in Chisinau one can face many problems among them the lack of places where you can safely park you bike. Starting with 14th of October 2012 the square situated on Bucuresti 68 str. will be equipped with its own bike-parking that is given as a present on the city day by its inhabitants. To celebrate we invite you to come and park your bike at B68 parking and watch together with us some documentaries on the topic of cyclism.

Shaping the NEW – expoziție de o zi / one day exhibition

În lunile aprilie-mai 2011, 5 artisti din Republica Moldova, Cehia, Polonia, Ungaria și Slovacia au participat la un schimb de reședințe artistice organizate drept parte a proiectului Shaping the NEW. Rezultatele acestui proiect vor fi prezentate publicului din Chisinau joi, 8 septembrie 2011 la APARTAMENT DESCHIS, sub forma unei expozitii / instalatii de o zi, specifice locului – transformind scuarului din str. Bucuresti 68 din Chisinau dintr-o parcare auto intr-un spatiu de arta.

In April – May 2011, 5 artists from Republic of Moldova, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia took part in the artist in residency exchange program organized in the frame of Shaping the NEW project. The results of the residencies will be presented to the publics in Chisinau on 8 of September 2011 at FLAT SPACE, in the form of an exhibition / one day site-specific installation, aiming to transform the square from Bucuresti str. 68 from a car parking into an art space.

Michaela BOTTKOVA
I am Slovak new media artist and I am in second class of my master degree in Kosice Fine art school. 24 years old, born in Nitra and I focus in my works on photography, video, interactive installations. The main theme use to be human being and his feelings.
5 months, 2 weeks and 3 days {that long was my sickness} – is about me and my mind and feelings during my illness. Documentation of installation can show you 3 different views of the same thing / window which was in front of me all the time and I could not go outside.

Balazs KOVACS

Balázs Kovacs (*1980), philosopher, electronic musician, media artist, head of the Moire Association for Culture and Periszkop Radio, Pecs. In my works I use found objects, mechanic devices and electronic control for creating movement, network interaction, sound.
If the target of a residency is to let the artist stay abroad, then for me it was successful – i like Brno, similar to my hometown.

Karina MARUSINSKA

Karina Marusinska is a graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw (Ceramics Design). She studied under scholarship programs at Pais Vasco University in Bilbao, Spain (2007) and at the Institute of Ceramics in Guebwiller, France (2008). She is a manifold scholar, laureate of nationwide and international prizes; participation in numerous exhibitions, symposia, plein-airs and festivals in both her home country and abroad.
In her two month residency in Kosice, Karina Marusinska was researching about waste and culture. She wanted to find out, what trash says about the city and its inhabitants as well as which role plays culture in the further European capital of culture. Marusinska connected both topics to an sensible insight view into the society of Kosice and recorded it in the video documentation “power of waste”. Also, she wrote several letters to key players in the city (major, dirctor of Kosice 2013 etc.) to ask for building up trash bins for culture all over the city.

Ghenadie POPESCU

On May 13 – 14. 2011 the 11th Wheelbarrow Olympics (Hung: “Talicskaolimpia”) took place in Hosszúhetény, a Hungarian village close to Pécs. This event is dedicated to the wheelbarrow, so sport events as well as cultural events connected to this vehicle took place. As this is one of Ghenadie Popescus favourite tools, naturally he also took part – not in the competitions, but with a unique sculpture, exclusively designed and built for this event (link).

Jarek SEDLAK

Young Czech architect, born in Brno, working with public space. Lived in Finland, Tampere and in Netherlands, Amsterdam. In 2010 was working in Prague, in Office Po and Vasi/Architekti in Brno.
During his residency in Chisinau, in collaboration with Oberliht Association, Jarek Sedlak has produced a work composed of 500 flowers that were planted on the square from Bucuresti str. 68, restricting this way the transport circulation on the square and keeping it free of cars during one day (link). He has also coordinated a workshop for local artists and architects that resulted in a series of proposals for the Bucuresti 68 square (details here).

Expoziția “B68 – zonă liberă / spațiu de artă” prezintă cîteva proiecte și idei concepute de un grup de tineri artiști și arhitecți din Chișinău. Pe această cale urmărim să oferim chișinăuienilor un exemplu cum ar putea scuarul din str. București 68 să acomodeze diverse activități, pentru a deveni, ulterior, un loc cu adevărat public.
Expoziția a fost realizată în urma atelierului condul de Jarek SEDLAK, tînăr arhitect din Brno, Republica Cehă, ca parte a proiectului Shaping the New.
Lucrările pot fi văzute pînă la data de 27 iunie 2011, ulterior acestea urmînd a fi prezentate în orașul Kosice din Slovacia, selectat pentru a fi Capitala Culturală Europeană în 2013.

În general, se observă o tendință a statului de a se retrage de la menținerea spațiului urban și de a renunța la menținerea altor servicii publice.
În urma procesului de privatizare, care s-a petrecut în lipsă de transparență și în afara unui control, suprafața spațiilor publice a fost redusă drastic, determinând dispariția multor locuri cu o menire publică, cum ar fi terenurile de joc, parcurile și grădinile din zonele rezidențiale. La fel a avut de suferit infrastructura culturală și cea destinată sportului – unele stadioane au fost demolate, iar altele au fost transformate în piețe sau parcări pentru mașini. În acest context, lipsită de resurse și din cauza situației sale încă nesigure, autoritatea publică locală se poziționează mai curînd în calitate de negociator între interesul public și interesul investitorului privat, deseori aprobînd scenarii care transformă spatiul public urban într-un platou reprezentativ pentru puterea politică sau într-un paravan publicitar pentru posesorii de capital, în consecință fiind excluse multe alte grupuri subreprezentate.

În urma acestor procese scuarul din str. București 68 din Chișinău a fost transformat și el într-o parcare de mașini ilegală, iar funcția sa publică pare să nu mai fie relevantă și nu mai figurează în agenda zilei a autorităților publice locale.

Existenta unor spații libere de economie și de control statal, unde lucruri de importanță publică să fie discutate de către cetățeni, încă reprezintă o condiție necesară pentru democratizarea societății. Astfel că rolul nostru ar putea fi cel de încurajare a inițiativelor civice în vederea păstrării spațiilor publice și menținerii accesibilităţii lor pentru comunitate, prin reconfigurarea lor în niște platforme care să răspundă unor scopuri educaționale, de acțiune socială, care să conecteze oamenii și să contribuie la formarea unor rețele, să încurajeze dezbaterile publice și să identifice soluții pentru conflictele existente.

“B68 – free zone / art space” presents few ideas conceived by a group of young artists and architects from Chisinau. Our intention is to present to city dwellers various examples how the square situated on Bucuresti str. 68 could start hosting different activities in order to become a true public space.
The exhibition was realized as a follow up of the workshop led by Jarek SEDLAK, young architect from Brno, Czech Republic, in the frame of Shaping the New project.
The proposals are on view till June 27 2011. They will also be presented in Kosice, Slovakia, selected as European Cultural Capital 2013.

Unlike cities from Western Europe, Chisinau benefited of open and accessible public spaces. The transition period following the declaration of independence of Republic of Moldova was going to radically change this situation. There is a general tendency of the state to withdraw its involvement in the maintenance of the urban space and to give up other public services.
Further to the privatisation process that lacked transparency and took place without any control, the public spaces area was dramatically reduced, which lead to the disappearance of many spaces with public functions such as playgrounds, parks and gardens in residential areas. Cultural and sports infrastructure was also altered – some sports grounds were demolished and others were turned into markets or car parks. It was followed by a reduction of green areas in favour of the new buildings for offices and private flats.
In this context, lacking resources and due to a yet uncertain situation, the local public authority rather positions itself as negotiator between public interest and the interest of the private investor, often endorsing scenarios turning urban space into a representative field for the political power or into an advertising board for capital owners, thus excluding many other under-represented groups.

As a follow up the square situated on Bucuresti Street 68 in Chisinau has turned into an illegal parking zone for cars, while its original public function doesn’t represent an interest to the local public authorities and is not present on their agenda anymore.

The existence of spaces free of economy and state control, where matters of public importance are discussed by citizens still represent a prerequisite to the democratisation of society. Therefore, our role should be that of encouraging civic initiatives with view to preserving public spaces and maintaining them available for the community, by reconfiguring them into platforms, which may answer to educational purposes, of social action, which may interrelate people and contribute to the formation of networks, and encourage public debates, and identify solutions for existing conflicts.
