- – – – –

EN
- – – – –
In her latest video-work “Fresh Cherries” Anna Baumgart touches upon several important issues in the context of working through the traumatic past and a critical reflection on the “division of sensuality”, namely, what can we talk about and what is better to be left undisturbed.
“Fresh cherries” is not a reconstruction or a re-enactment, and not a documentary either. Nonetheless, the viewer is entering the worlds of a Polish woman raped by Soviet soldiers and a German prostitute who used to work in an official brothel in Auschwitz concentration camp.
We also meet Joanna, a young researcher attempting a breakthrough in our knowledge – or rather ignorance – with a research project on prostitution in concentration camps.
There is also Marcin Koszalka, a well known Polish documentary filmmaker; here he appears as a character, the one who posses the point of view of “the other”.
Finally, we encounter the artist herself firmly asking the question: why do I have to deal with all this?

Teodor AJDER
