Sense of Autonomy (In Search of) – a retrospective exhibition by Oberliht Association
The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday, May 3, from 2 pm to 5 pm, at the Middle Art Space in Taipei, and will feature several Moldovan wines for degustation.

The present program aims to familiarize the Taiwanese audiences with the early activities of Oberliht Association and with Moldovan contemporary art. Curated by Vladimir Us this retrospective exhibition presents the activity timeline of Oberliht Association complemented by a limited number of videos, art works, photographs, objects, technical drawings and publications that document the work of Angela Candu, Ghenadie Popescu, Ștefan Rusu, Jaroslav Sedlak and of other artists and cultural workers, with whom Oberliht has been collaborating along the years.

Both the exhibition and the accompanying program of public events touch upon the topic of Moldovan cultural identity and the way it has been evolving during the last few decades after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and in relation to the local context of rural and urban transformations. Organized around several elements like food, clothing, transportation, housing and public spaces, the presented works offer a distinctive perspective on their meaning as a part of the daily lives of Moldovan citizens, while approaching the topic of identity through its rural (associated with traditional culture) and urban (associated with an emerging civic culture) origins and influences.

Throughout our entire lives we can adopt multiple identities so even if we look and dress the same and speak similar languages, the societal model that we adopt could differ from region to region and from country to country (in this context the term post-Soviet, when referencing to Moldova, is too general and can be rather confusing). This is to say that our contemporary identity is formed both from what we used to be and believe in in the past and what we consider to be representative for us today, including the set of values that we adhere to as a community of people and that are constantly being shaped by an evolving political system that we are part of.

As a young country, Republic of Moldova is still in the process of defining its own identity in a new global order, having to deal with a complex past, rethinking its cultural traditions and embracing new values. Relying mostly on farming activities while lacking its own natural resources, having weak public institutions and an underdeveloped civic sector, facing a demographic crisis and other important issues, Moldovans have still to identify their sense of autonomy and to negotiate their independence from much stronger actors in the region and while avoiding leaning too much towards older or newer centers of power, to find the necessary means for creation of a democratic society.

In many ways, this influenced the situation in which the independent cultural actors from Moldova (Oberliht Association as one of them) were acting during the last few decades, while facing structurally precarious conditions (lack of spaces, funding and educational opportunities) they would stay focused on the need for achieving artistic autonomy and a more just and peaceful society.

The exhibition opening will be complemented by a public talk with participation of the curator Vladimir Us, which will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 7 pm at the Middle Art Space in Taipei and that will be followed by the screening of Interventions 3 film.

The Interventions 3 (curators: Natasa Bodrozic, Vladimir Us), artistic project dealing with the topic of public space took place in the city of Chisinau and its surroundings throughout August 2008, thus anticipating the Kiosk project. It gathered more than thirty participants from Moldova, Romania, Croatia, Germany and France who stayed in the city for a short term residency creating art works and reflecting over the processes producing Chisinau’s public space, the city’s visual structure, the hidden histories and experience of its inhabitants’ everyday life.

Their stay and the results of the project was documented in a catalogue, in two different issues of State of Emergency magazine / Oberliht Supplement and in this film.

The project consisted of several phases: city walks, artists’ projects, public presentations and discussions, Ghidighici Graffiti session and opening to the public of ArtHotel – a space for artistic production and exchange.

MALMZEIT [CH/DE]: SERVICIUL DE LIVRARE HEAVY ME(N)TAL – concert

TANDEM / REFLECȚII: Pozitron / Botanica – este un program de rezidențe ce își propune să stabilească sau să reînnoiască legăturile dintre artiști și activiștii sociali / urbani din Ivano-Frankivsk și Chișinău, precum și dintre locuitorii cartierelor. Proiectul promovează descentralizarea culturală a orașului (de la centru spre periferii), dezvoltarea unor forme noi de activitate culturală în cartierele rezidențiale ale ambelor orașe și conștientizarea valorii zonelor din afara centrelor istorice ale orașelor. Proiectul va pune în discuție și valoarea moștenirii post-socialiste – nu în ceea ce ține de numele străzilor sau de monumente, ci de însăși textura urbană.

ART PROSPECT: Rezidențe Artistice – e un program de rezidențe dezvoltat de către ArtsLink, care găzduiește artiști și curatori în rezidențe în Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Belarus, Georgia, Kârgâstan, Moldova, Tadjikistan, Ucraina și Uzbekistan, și care își propune să creeze oportunități pentru proiecte de cercetare, să faciliteze colaborarea cu comunitățile artistice locale, să creeze noi posibilități de muncă și posibilități de dezvoltare a parteneriatelor dintre artiștii și curatorii din rezidențe și organizațiile artistice locale. Prin acest program, Asociația Oberliht găzduiește în luna iunie un artist din Tadjikistan – Khurshed Rasulzade și o artistă din Kârgâzstan – Dinara Kanybek kyzy.

IN SITU este o rețea care aduce împreună programatori pasionați de noi forme ale artei și spațiului public, și care începând cu 2003 dezvoltă proiecte europene comune. Până în prezent IN SITU a susținut peste 180 de artiști, și a adunat 25 de parteneri cu experiențele practice și artistice diferite, venind din 17 țări.

Acest eveniment este realizat în cadrul programului Fațade Publice (28 mai – 1 iulie 2017) – un program de intervenții artistice, proiecții de film, radiou comunitar, expoziții, ateliere ce se desfășoară în cartierul Botanica al capitalei și este susținută de Ministerul Culturii al RM, Ministerul Tineretului și Sportului al Republicii Moldova, Pretura Botanica, CAP Al. Plămădeală, CEC ArtsLink, MitOst, Fundația Culturală Europeană și Uniunea Europeană prin programul Europa Creativă.

MALMZEIT [CH/DE]: THE HEAVY ME(N)TAL DELIVERY SERVICE – concert

TANDEM / REFLECTIONS: Pozitron / Botanica – is a residency programme which aims to establish or renew ties between artists and social/urban activists of Ivano-Frankivsk and Chisinau, as well as between residents of the districts. The project promotes cultural decentralization (from the city center to the outskirts), developing of new forms of cultural activity in blocks areas of both cities and understanding the value of the city parts beyond the historical downtowns. The project also will develop discussion about the value of postcommunist legacy – not in streets’ names or monuments but in the very urban fabric.

ART PROSPECT: Artist Residencies – is a residency project developed by ArtsLink, which hosts artists and curators for residencies in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, and which aims to provide opportunities for artists and curators to conduct research, create new work, collaborate with local arts communities, and create special projects in partnership with local arts organizations. Through this programme, Oberliht Association is hosting during the month of June the participants Khurshed Rasulzade (Tajikistan), Dinara Kanybek kyzy (Kyrgyzstan).

IN SITU brings together a group of programmers who are passionate about new forms of art and public space. They have been working together since 2003 to develop joint European projects.
The expertise and activities of IN SITU covers scouting and promotion of artists, organisation of project laboratories and incubators, co-productions and promotion of emerging creations, organisation of conferences and seminars, etc.
To date, IN SITU has supported over 180 European artists. It gathers 25 partners from 17 countries from as many practical and aesthetic backgrounds which all contribute something vital to the network. Whether members come from a sprawling metropolis or a rural area, whether they are seeking to rehabilitate industrial wasteland or redesign landscapes, the goal is always to serve artists working with, in and for public space.

This event is organized in the frame of Public Facades program (May 28 – July 1, 2017) – a program of artistic interventions, film screenings, community radio, exhibitions and workshops that takes place in the Botanica neighborhood of the capital, and is receiving support from Ministry of Culture of Republic of Moldova, Ministry of Youth and Sports of Republic of Moldova, Botanica local city hall, Al. Plamadeala College of Art and is co-financed by CEC ArtsLink, Mitost, European Cultural Foundation and the European Union through Creative Europe program.

“Mă voi gindi la asta deseară”. O explorare artistică a Chișinăului în 7 zile

Între 18 și 25 martie, un grup de studenți și lectori de la Univeristatea de Arte din Zurich, Departamentul Artă și Media, au explorat Chișinăul în colaborare cu studenții Academiei de Muzică, Teatru și Arte Plastice din Chișinău și membrii Asociației Oberliht.

Expoziția prezintă rezultatele unei cercetări de o săptămînă și schimb prin medii, abordări și atitudini artistice diverse. Cu trecutul și prezentul său divers și complex, cîteodată confuz, cu poziția sa intermediară între Europa de Est și Vest și un aspect urban atît de bogat în detalii, Chișinăul în mod natural se oferă unei explorări multifocale și experimentale prin artă.

Unicul principiu de ghidare al proiectul a fost de a nu ezita de a concepe o idee și a o realiza în mod rapid, improvizat și spontan: reflecție în acțiune. Prin urmare, expresia „Mă voi gîndi la asta deseară” a fost des auzită fie că discuția era despre Chișinău sau alte lucruri, artă sau expoziția de la final – nici un moment de întrerupt, nu e timp de pierdut! Lucrările artistice care au fost produse în acest fel se preocupă printre altele de particularitățile arhitecturale, cazinou-uri și anunțuri publicitare comerciale, terenuri de joacă locale și viața din interiorul hotelului Cosmos.

“I’ll Think About It Tonight”. An artistic exploration of Chisinau in 7 days

From March 18 to March 25, a group of students and lecturers from the Zurich University of the Arts, Department of Arts and Media, explored Chisinau in collaboration with the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Chisinau and Oberliht Association.

This exhibition presents the results of the week-long research and exchange through various media, approaches, and artistic attitudes. With its diverse, complex, and sometimes confusing past and present, its intermediate position between western and eastern Europe, and its cityscape so rich in detail, Chisinau naturally lends itself to multifocal, experimental explorations through the arts.

The only guideline of the project was not to hesitate, to grasp an idea, and to realize it in a fast, if improvised and spontaneous way: reflection-in-action, as it were. Thus the sentence “I’ll think about it tonight” was often heard whenever talk was of other things than Chisinau, art, and the exhibition–no time to interrupt, no time to lose! The artworks that were produced in this way deal with, among others, architectural particularities, casino and commodity advertisements, local playgrounds, and the inner life of hotel Cosmos.

Ce faci cînd ești urmărit de o persoană străina în drum spre casă? O iei la fugă sau numeri batăile inimii sub presiunea unor halucinații?

Cițiva ani în urmă am fost victima unui abuz public, consecințele căruia m-au influențat psihologic.

Durlești este un orășel situat în sectorul Buiucani din Chișinău, care găzduiește o populație de 18.400 de locuitori. Accesul în acest cartier este asigurat prin intermediul mai multor maxi-taxi, ruta de autobus nr. 11 și ruta de troleibuz nr. 28, dar, din păcate existența acestei infrastucturi nu garantează securitatea localnicilor. Din cauza iluminării foarte slabe a străzilor seara și în timpul nopții apare pericolul de a fi agresat de hoți sau persoane cu intenții criminale. De fiecare data, cînd trec seara tîrziu prin acest orășel, mă înspăimîntă, iar atmosfera nocturnă îmi creează senzația unui eventuale agresiuni. Am devenit victimă a unor naluciri. Din experiența mea și a altor persoane, îmi dau seama că astfel de situații nu pot asigura siguranța familiilor din Durlești.

Părerea mea este că în condițiile acestor împrejurimi, nevoia de siguranță (situată la scara a doua în ierarhia trebuințelor umane, conform piramidei lui A. Maslow) este una primordială pentru asigurarea integrității fizice, securitatea casei și a familiei. Un mediu instabil în care ești lipsit de sprijin nu este unul caracteristic pentru o societate democratică, construită prin prisma valorilor general-umane, care tinde spre o dezvoltare durabilă. Cînd vom reuși oare să educăm societatea într-un spirit al egalității? Cine ar trebui să intervină în acest caz, asigurînd localnicii cu un spațiu public bine protejat?

Transmit un mesaj în atenția autorităților locale: străzile ar trebui să fie iluminate mai bine, trupele de carabinieri să circule regulat, iar serviciul de taxi sa fie mai receptiv la apelurile din acest cartier. Consider că intervenția administrației publice este esențială pentru spațiu public mai bun, dar cel mai important este să conștientizăm fiecare din noi această problemă și să ne mobilizăm, asigurîndu-ne un mod de viață mai sigur.

What do you do when you are being followed by a strange person on the way home ? Do you run away, or do you count your heartbeats under the pressure of hallucinations?

Few years ago I was assaulted on the street and this affected my psychologically.

Durlesti is a city situated in Buiucani sector of Chisinau, that has around 15,000 inhabitants. This neightbourdhood can be reached by Maxi-taxi, autobus n°11 and n°28, but, unfortunately, the existence of this infrastrcture does not guarantee the security of locals. The streets being poorly lighted, the chances of being assaulted by a burglar or a person with criminal intentions raise at night. Everytime when I walk late in the evening in this city, it frightens me, and the dark atmosphere makes me feel unsecure. I became a victim of dreamlike visions. From my experience and others, I realize that this kind of situations can not ensure the safety of Durleşti families.

My point of view is that in the conditions of these surroundings, the need for security (situated at the second stage in the hierarchy of human needs, according to A. Maslow pyramid) is essential to ensure the physical integrity, the security of the house and family. An unstable environment in which you lack support is not a characteristic of a democratic society built through the prism of human values, that aims at sustainable development. When will we manage to educate society in a spirit of equality? Who should intervene in this case, to provide locals with a well protected public space?

I send a message to local authorities: streets should be better lighted, troops of “carabinieri” should patroll more regurlarly, and taxi service should be more receptive to the calls made in this neightbourhood. I consider that the intervention of public administration is essential for a better public space, but the most important is for all of us to be aware of this issue, and to mobilize toward a safer way of life.

«De la abis spre deschidere – Act fotografic, performance și plenitudine supremă» continuă lucrarea artistică «Natură în abis» lansată în 2009. Este o cercetare de durată a cărei preocupare centrală este afirmarea actului fotografic ca performance, devenit astăzi performarea fotografiei. În ciuda faptului că se află încă într-un stadiu incipient, proiectul «De la abis spre deschidere» a beneficiat deja de o prezentare publică în 2009, în interiorul bazinului fostei mănăstiri Sfântul Francis, astăzi clădirea care găzduiește Facultatea de Arte din cadrul Universității din Lisabona, iar la Chișinău, capitala Moldovei, la ARThotel, sub titlul «Acum, când acceptăm golul».

Aceste experiențe privesc materialitatea corpului, iar fotografiile vizează concretețea materialului. Corpul care este expus lumii, energiei și care, de asemenea, emană energie.

Autoarea atribuie anumite sensibilități materialului, acolo unde structura oferă clarificări și conținut pentru imprimare. Imprimarea a ceea ce acest material deosebit de sensibil poate înregistra, poate fixa.

Corpul, în materialitatea sa, este supus schimbării și entropiei – un corp concret, un corp material, un corp al casei, un corp care este supus dezordinii naturale a lumii.

Un corp sensibil care are o oarecare materialitate sensibilă, în care realul este prezent, iar acesta poate fi abordat și palpat.

Oamenii elaborează practici care ne dau posibilitatea de a înregistra ceea ce nu se vede, de a crea un fel de cartografie care face vizibil ceea ce nu putem observa.

Aparatul de fotografiat nu este un mediu prin excelență, operând între noi și lume – este mai degrabă propriul nostru corp-substanță-materie-sensibilă la fel ca și corpul lumii care performează fotografia.

Lucrările prezentate la Casa Zemstvei din Chișinău reunesc trei serii de imagini: acelea care înregistrează / documentează performarea apartamentului care afectează fructele, plantele, semințele și foaia de hârtie, așezate pe balcon, acelea care înregistrează performarea spațiului public în oraș și, în final, acelea care înregistrează performarea pădurii. Apartamentul este cel care fotografiază, este orașul cel care fotografiază, este lumea ca aparat de fotografiat.

Pe lângă imaginile prezentate în expoziție, se pot găsi și materiale care reprezintă lucrarea în sine și care au devenit elementul central al performance-urilor documentate – desenele de lumină, ca și desenele atmosferei, ale vântului, ale căldurii, ale umidității – desenele-fotografie ale tuturor tipurilor de energie în mișcarea perpetuă care reprezintă viața, care sunt sau nu corporale.

Expoziția este o introducere în proiectul doctoral început la care Ana Nobre lucrează din 2011.

Ana Nobre: Ourique, 1984. În prezent își face doctoratul în Artă și Multimedia la Facultatea de Arte Plastice – Universitatea din Lisabona, cu o bursă oferită de Fundatia portugheză pentru Știință și Tehnologie. A făcut masteratul la facultatea Artă Multimedia – Instalație și Performance, absolvind Comunicare și Design la aceeași universitate. Realizează și își expune lucrările, regulat, în Portugalia, Italia și Republica Moldova.

From the Abyss to the Wide Open — The performance of photography

«From the Abyss to the Wide Open – Photographic Act, Performance and Supreme Fullness» continues the artistic work «Nature in Abyss» initiated in 2009. It is a life long research that has as central question the affirmation of the photographic act as performance that becomes today the performance of the photography. Despite being in its initial phase the project «From the Abyss to the Wide Open» has already been publicly presented in 2009, inside the cistern of the former Saint Francisco convent, today the building of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon University, and in 2011 in Chisinau, capital of Moldova, at ARThotel, titled «Now that we accept the emptiness».

These experiences are related to the materiality of the body and these photographs are related to the concreteness of the material. The body that is exposed to the world, to the energy, and that also emanates energy.

The author attributes certain sensitivity to the material where its structure provides explanation and content for the printing. The printing of what this particular sensitive material is able to register, to fix.

The body and its materiality is a subject to change and entropy – a concrete body, a material body, the body of the house, a body that is subject to the world’s natural disorder.

A sensitive body that has a certain sensitive materiality, where the real is present, where the real is possible to approach and touch.

People develop practices that enable us to register what is not seen, creating a sort of cartography that makes things unnoticed by us visible.

The camera is not a medium par excellence, operating between us and the world – its rather our own material-substance-sensitive-body as well as the body of the world, which are performing the photograph.

The works presented in Casa Zemstvei in Chisinau bring together three series of images: those that record/document the performance of the apartment that affects the fruits, the plants, seeds and the piece of paper placed inside the balcony; those that record the performance of the public space in the city and finally those that record the performance of the forest. It is the apartment that photographs; it is the city that photographs; it is the world as a photographic camera.
Besides the presented pictures in the exhibition one can find the materials that are the actual work and that became central to the documented performances – the drawings of light, as well as the drawings of the atmosphere, of the wind, of the heat, of the humidity – the photo-drawings of all kind of energy in constant motion that is life, that is corporeal or is not corporeal.

This exhibition makes an introduction to the PhD project started by Ana Nobre in 2011.

Ana NOBRE:  Ourique, 1984. Currently attends the second year of a PhD in Art and Multimedia at the Faculty of Fine Arts – University of Lisbon, with a grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Master in Multimedia Art – Installation and Performance and graduated in Communication Design from the same university. She develops and presents regularly work in Portugal, Italy and Moldova.

Alienarea prezentă în lumea de azi nu constă atît în aceea că fiecare om este singur, incapabil să comunice cu alţii. Mai degrabă, ea constă în faptul că fiecare om a pierdut contactul cu lumea, cu structura şi modul în care este ea organizată. Fiecare îşi are mica sa lume – proprietatea privată – alcătuită din propriul apartament, familie, cărţi, conturi pe reţele de socializare; prin care încearcă să-şi dobîndească mica sa fericire. Această ruptură radicală, între propria lume (o mică rezervaţie-simulacru) şi societate a fost denunţată în mai 68. Oamenii ieşeau în stradă şi se întrebau „suntem fericiţi?”, iar întrebarea aceasta a devenit una politică.

Un alt lucru care s-a întîmplat în mai 68 a fost crearea unui limbaj şi context prin care oamenii pot articula ceea ce este în neregulă cu lumea în care trăiesc. Revolta iniţiată în Universitatea din Strasburg, exprimată printr-un pamflet în care este denunţată condiţia schizofrenică socială a studentului, pendulînd între ameninţarea unui viitor abstract şi ancorarea unui prezent mistic, tăiat de istorie; a iniţiat contextul pentru interogarea condiţiei fiecărui dintre noi ca subiect social. Celebrarea lui mai 68 va crea un context pentru această interogare şi revoltă, folosind limbajul sloganelor.

Fiecare e binevenit să-şi aducă sloganele sale de împotrivire, protest, nemulţumire, utopice; pe care le vom lipi în colajul nostru, sau le vom scrie pe stickere ce pot fi distribuite mai încolo.

The existing alienation in our present era is not as much represented by the fact that every person is alone, incapable of communicating with the others. But rather that every person has lost the contact with the world, with its structure and how it is organized. Each individual has its own small world – the private property – made from his apartment, his family, books, and accounts on different kinds of social networks; through all these, each individual tries hard to reach his small happiness. This radical split, between the individual’s small world (which is nothing else but a small reservation-simulacrum) and society was denounced in Mai 68. People were coming out in the streets asking themselves “are we happy?”, and this question has become a political one.

Another thing that happened in Mai 68 was the emergence of a language and a context through which people could articulate what was wrong with the world they were living in. The initial revolt in the University of Strasbourg, represented in a pamphlet in which the schizophrenic social condition of the student was denounced – oscillating between the threat of an abstract future and the jail of a mystic present, cut out from history – it has generated the context for questioning the condition each one of us has as a social subject. The celebration of Mai 68 will generate a context for this questioning and revolt, using the language of slogans.

Each person is welcomed to bring his own slogans of resistance, protest, dissatisfaction or of utopia; we will paste these slogans in our collage or we will copy them to small stickers which can later be distributed.

CHIOȘC/KIOSK project articulates and expresses the need for alternative cultural infrastructure to be created in Chisinau – a city where the cultural life is still dominated by institutions established during the Soviet period – as a model for sharing, education, production and presentation of socially engaged artistic practices.

The exhibition presented in HIT takes form of a furnished flat, thus making reference to the FLAT SPACE – a functional replica of a socialist apartment designed by Stefan Rusu and commissioned to represent the identity of KIOSK/CHIOȘC project. In its turn, the FLAT SPACE was conceived as a response to the existing self-sufficient and closed system of cultural institutions that is continuously supported by the Moldovan state within an outdated cultural policy framework.

The other important reference that FLAT SPACE has is the phenomenon of the apartment exhibitions that took place in the mid of 70s, in bigger cities in USSR like Leningrad, Moscow or Odessa, organized by artists whose works got censored or banned from being exhibited in the official exhibition halls.

Today, many years later, FLAT SPACE can still be read as an apartment exhibition space due to the lack of support that contemporary art and culture receive from the authorities of the recently-born independent Moldovan state, thus being marginalized and reduced to an invisible phenomenon.

In the course of 2009-2012 KIOSK/CHIOȘC project supported artists, architects, curators and activists to project new functions and sometimes add a different significance to the inherited social (in the past controlled by the Soviet state) space, by extending the limits of what could become later a public space and by inviting new actors to step in, thus opening the process of city planning and space distribution to other previously excluded social groups.

The current exhibition presents the works created by local and invited in the frame of KIOSK/CHIOȘC artist in residency program participants. By making use of abandoned, underused or mono-functional public spaces the artists along with Chișinău inhabitants, open new spaces of dialogue and critical reflection, and observation of the recent public space transformations, questioning in the same time the established order and the existing regulations along with the authority that maintains them.

The outcomes of these interventions and the reactions to them should encourage us to rethink the role that art could play and the artist could have when working in and with the public domain, regaining and opening new space of interaction in a landscape dominated by private political and economic interests.

În ajunul Zilei Internaționale a Femeii Asociația Oberliht în colaborare cu Amnesty International Moldova organizează o expoziție și vă invită la o discuție despre problema violenței în bază de gen.

Vitalie Sprînceană și Gheorghe Zugravu (Amnesty International Moldova) vor face o introducere în subiectul expoziției, care va fi urmată de o discuție publică.

Am avea cel puțin două motive de a vorbi despre violența gender (avem în vedere violența la care sînt supuse femeile). Primul motiv – aceasta este foarte răspîndită – ea reprezintă cea mai frecventă formă de încălcare a drepturilor omului. Al doilea motiv ține de faptul că această formă de violență este atît de aproape: ea are loc în spațiile cele mai intime, în principal în cadrul familiei între soți și soții, tați și fiice, feciori și mame, nepoți și bunici. Aceste motive, dar și altele, fac ca identificarea și combaterea violenței împotriva femeilor să fie un proces deosebit de dificil. Aceste motive fac ca violența împotriva femeilor să lase urme adînci și traume în sufletele și inimile femeilor din jurul nostru.

Expoziția prezintă desene și picturi realizate de copii și tineri între 7 şi 24 ani, în baza unui apel lansat de Amnesty International Moldova în 2010, și opiniile lor despre problema violenței în bază de gen. Lucrările prezentate urmează să explice ce este violenţă în bază de gen sau să exprime viziunea autorilor asupra aceastei probleme, care să ajute la identificarea cazurilor de violenţă cînd acestea au loc.
În urma concursului, Amnesty International Moldova a selectat 16 lucrări care au fost multiplicate sub forma unor cărți poștale. Aceste cărți poștale sunt utilizate în cadrul campaniilor de informare şi mobilizare desfăşurate de către Amnesty International Moldova şi partenerii săi, locali şi internaţionali, în acţiunile de solidaritate a victimelor supuse violenţei în bază de gen, şi prevenirii a fenomenului dat.
Pentru trei săptămâni aceste cărți poștale în combinație cu unele dintre desenele originale vor fi prezentate la Apartament Deschis. În momentul inaugurării expoziției veți avea ocazia să luați unele cărți poștale cu voi.

Amnesty International este o mișcare mondială a apărătorilor Drepturilor Omului, cu mai mult de 3 mln. de membri și acitiviști la nivel global și prezentă în peste 160 de state și teritorii. Amnesty International militează la nivel global pentru drepturile omului pentru toți.

With International Woman Day in the back of our minds Oberliht Association in collaboration with Amnesty International Moldova organizes an exhibition and a discussion about the issue of gender based violence.

In relation to the exhibition there will be an introduction to the topic presented by Vitalie Sprinceana and Georghe Zugravu (Amnesty International Moldova) followed by an open discussion.

There are two major reasons to talk about gender-based violence (by which we mean mostly violence directed against women). The first is that this type of violence is pervasive – it represents the most frequent violation of human rights. The second reason is the fact that it is so familiar and close – it is being perpetrated mainly within the family and between the closest persons: husbands and wives, fathers and daughters, sons and moms, grandsons and grandmothers. These reasons, but not only them, make it very difficult to identify and fight with it; these very same make it leave deep traces into the minds and hearts of the women around us.

The exhibition is the result of an open call Amnesty International Moldova did in 2010, inviting young people between the ages of 7 and 24 to send in drawings with their views on gender based violence. The works presented are to explain what is gender-based violence, to express a vision on this issue and to help identify cases of violence when they occur.
Following the contest, Amnesty International Moldova selected 16 works and printed them as postcards. These postcards are used for information and mobilization campaigns carried out by Amnesty International Moldova and its local and international partners, for actions of solidarity for victims of gender-based violence and prevention of this phenomenon.
For three weeks these postcards in combination with some of the original drawings will be shown at Flat Space. During the opening you also will have the chance to take some postcards for you.

Pe 22 februarie 2013, la ora 14:00 vă invităm să vă alăturați noii noastre acțiuni și să ne ajutați să distribuim fluturașe cu mesajul “NU LĂSA MAȘINA SĂ-ȚI OCUPE LOCUL !! / NU LĂSA MAȘINA SĂ TE REPREZINTE!” pe mașinile parcate neregulamentar. Pe această cale dorim să atragem atenția asupra conflictelor existente în imediata noastră apropiere, în contextul urban, iar mașinele parcate neregulamentar constituie una din aceste probleme. Pe de o parte dorim ca chișinăuienii să se pătrundă de această problemă și să devină mai conștienți, iar pe de altă parte ne-ar plăcea să aflăm ce cred șoferii despre acest lucru.

De aici și aici puteți descărca fluturașul pe care îl vom distribui vinerea asta.

Prin acest APEL la ACȚIUNE vom inaugura noua expoziție la APARTAMENT DESCHIS cu titlul B68 – Revendicări Tipărite care prezintă documentația mesajelor distribuite anterior pe parbrizul mașinilor parcate neregulamentar. Această campanie este posibilă datorită efortului depus de voluntarii europeni care au petrecut mult timp în Chișinău lucrînd la pregătirea ei.

Despre expoziție

Spre deosebire de orașele din europa de vest, Chișinăul a beneficiat de spații publice deschise și accesibile. Perioada de tranziție ce a urmat declarației de independență a Republicii Moldova avea să modifice radical această situație.

În urma procesului de privatizare, care s-a petrecut în lipsă de transparență și în afara unui control, suprafața spațiilor publice a fost redusă drastic, determinând dispariția multor locuri cu o menire publică, cum ar fi terenurile de joc, parcurile și grădinile din zonele rezidențiale. La fel a avut de suferit infrastructura culturală și cea destinată sportului – unele stadioane au fost demolate, iar altele au fost transformate în piețe sau parcări pentru mașini. Acest lucru a fost urmat de o reducere a spațiilor verzi în favoarea unor noi blocuri destinate pentru oficii, birouri și locuințe private.

În acest context, lipsită de resurse și din cauza situației sale încă nesigure, autoritatea publică locală se poziționează mai curînd în calitate de negociator între interesul public și interesul investitorului privat, deseori aprobînd scenarii care transformă spatiul public urban într-un platou reprezentativ pentru puterea politică sau într-un paravan publicitar pentru posesorii de capital, în consecință fiind excluse multe alte grupuri subreprezentate.

În urma acestor procese scuarul din str. București 68 din Chișinău a fost transformat și el într-o parcare de mașini ilegală, alături de multe alte locuri pietonale accesibile în oraș, iar funcția sa publică nu mai pare a fi relevantă pentru autoritățile publice locale, dispărînd în umbra intereselor private.

În acest context au fost întreprinse diverse activități în căutarea unor soluții, răspunsuri, idei …, printre care întîlnirile grupului de lectură Spații Publice în Post-Socialism, coordonat de V. Sprînceană, atelierul Democrația în Oraș și campania de distribuție a fluturașelor B68 – Revendicări Tipărite.

Prin proiectul B68 – Revendicări Tipărite doritorii sînt încurajați să conceapă noi mesaje și să le distribuie pe parbrizul mașinilor, formînd un cadru de comunicare între chișinăuieni despre modul în care partajăm orașul fără să prejudiciem pietonii, despre nevoia protejării spațiilor publice și identificării unor noi alternative pentru a ne deplasa în Chișinău.

Următoarele mesaje au fost deja distribuite, iar altele așteaptă să le vină rîndul:

“O ŢARĂ DEZVOLTATĂ NU ESTE CEA ÎN CARE SĂRACII AU O MAŞINĂ, DAR UNDE CEI BOGAŢI MERG CU TRANSPORTUL PUBLIC” – autorul acestui mesaj este fostul primar al Bogotei Enrique Peñalosa, care ne-a inspirat la crearea acestui fluturaș. Ne-am propus să încurajăm toată lumea să utilizeze transportul public drept un mijloc de transport mai accesibil și convenabil, mai ecologic și mai social.

“POŢI AJUNGE AICI ȘI CU TRANSPORTUL PUBLIC” – acsest mesaj vine să reamintească oamenilor că în Chișinău, astăzi, poți merge aproape peste tot doar cu transportul public, și nu mai e nevoie de mașină!

“VĂ MULŢUMIM CĂ NE-AŢI BLOCAT CALEA. AICI E ZONĂ PIETONALĂ!” – de această dată eram în căutarea mașinilor parcate pe trotuar, care blocau calea pietonilor, a părinților cu cărucioare pentru copii, bătrânilor care merg braț la braț sau a cuplurilor ce se țin de mâini, și nu doar calea noastră.

Intenția noastră este să obținem un dialog constructiv între pietoni și șoferi. Noi credem că împreună se pot identifica modalități de folosire a spațiilor publice disponibile, și transformarea lor în spații publice inclusive pentru noi toți.

On February 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. we invite you to join our next action and help us to distribute another no-parking flyer “DON’T HIDE BEHIND YOUR CAR!“. This way we would like to bring attention to the existing in our immediate urban surroundings conflicts, the cars illegally parked in the pedestrian zones being one of them. On one hand we would like to make the local inhabitants conscious about this problem, and on the other hand we would like to learn about drivers’ reaction.

Through this CALL for ACTION we inaugurate our next exhibition at FLAT SPACE called B68 – Flying Claims, that offers a documentation of previously distributed messages on the irregularly parked cars. This campaign was made possible due to European volunteers who spent many days in Chisinau, helping us to develop this campaign.

About the exhibition

Unlike cities from Western Europe, Chisinau benefited of open and accessible public spaces. The transition period following the declaration of independence of Republic of Moldova was going to radically change this situation.

Further to the privatisation process that lacked transparency and took place without any control, the public spaces area was dramatically reduced, which lead to the disappearance of many spaces with public functions such as playgrounds, parks and gardens in residential areas. Cultural and sports infrastructure was also altered – some sports grounds were demolished and others were turned into markets or car parks. It was followed by a reduction of green areas in favour of the new buildings for offices and private flats.

In this context, lacking resources and due to a yet uncertain situation, the local public authority rather positions itself as negotiator between public interest and the interest of the private investor, often endorsing scenarios turning urban space into a representative field for the political power or into an advertising board for capital owners, thus excluding many other underrepresented groups.

As a follow up the square situated on Bucuresti Street 68 in Chisinau has turned into an illegal parking zone for cars, along with many other accessible pedestrian spaces through out the city, while its original public function doesn’t represent a value anymore to the local public authorities, disappearing in the shadow of the private interests.

Considering this context different activities were initiated and realized in order to find a solution, an answer, an idea …, among which were the Public Space in Post-Socialism reading group coordinated by V. Sprinceana, Democracy in the City workshop & the B68 – Flying Claims flyer distribution campaign.

With the project B68 – Flying Claims we encourage volunteers to conceive and distribute new messages on car windows, aiming to open new fields of communication among Chisinau inhabitants about the way we share the city without obstructing pedestrians, the need to protect public spaces and to search for alternative ways of transportation in the city.

The following messages were already distributed and there are many more to come:

“A DEVELOPED COUNTRY IS NOT A PLACE WHERE THE POOR HAVE CARS. IT’S WHERE THE RICH GO WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT” – the former mayor of Bogotá, Enrique Peñalosa, the author of the mes- sage, inspired us for this flyer. We want to stress out that public transportation is a way for everybody to move around the city in an affordable, more environmently friendly and social way.

“YOU COULD HAVE ALSO COME HERE WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT” – with this message we want to make people aware that in Chisinau you can go almost everywhere with public transport nowadays. You actually don’t need a car!

“THANK YOU FOR BLOCKING OUR WAY. THIS IS A PEDESTRIAN AREA” – this time we were looking for the cars parked on the sidewalks, blocking the path of pedestrians, of parents with pushchairs, old people arm in arm or couples holding hands, and not just our own way.

Our intention is to achieve constructive dialogue between the car users and pedestrians. We believe that together we can manage unoccupied free spaces; we can create a public space for all off us.

Războiul e pace. Libertatea e sclavie. Ignoranţa e putere.

Astăzi, 20 de ani de la căderea zidului Berlinului, doi fotografi italieni au fotografiat cîteva apartamente abandonate din oraşul Chemnitz din Germania de Est, unde timpul s-a oprit odată cu apusul perioadei comuniste. Fotografii sunt Massimiliano Boschini şi Mauro Manuini, fondatorii grupului Pommefritz.
Apartamentele pustii sunt o expresie a trecutului, istoriei, a oamenilor care au locuit aici. Acest proiect fotografic este un tribut adus Republicii Democrate Germane sau Germaniei de Est. Acest proiect reprezintă Nostalgia noastră faţă de Est – sau ostalgia – o combinaţie a cuvintelor ost (est) şi nostalgie (‘nostalgia’) care se întîlneşte pe larg în Germania contemporană, unificată. Ostalgia subliniază un dor (algia) care scoate în evidenţă eforturile de recuperare a ceea ce a fost pierdut. Această reconstrucţie este mediată de ironie faţă de trecut şi prezent, combinînd nişte sentimente puternice de înstrăinare faţă de Germania unificată, cu un dor de familiar. Memoria este ancorată într-un simţ de identitate, loc şi lucruri în calitate de cultură materială. Pommefritz sugerează că atunci cînd oamenii sunt strămutaţi de undeva şi nu au pe nimeni cine să le amintească de acest fapt, ei îşi pierd capacitatea de a-şi aminti trecutul care a avut loc acolo. Germanii estici care au fost cetăţeni ai RDG au fost invitaţi să-şi uite trecutul. Urmele spaţiului fizic în care au locuit, regimul comunist care le-a structurat vieţile, arhitectura modernistă, produsele şi experienţele din RDG – par să fi fost exilate din memoria colectivă a Germaniei unificate.

Ostalgie: Reevaluînd trecutul, mergînd înainte spre viitor, nu uita de trecut. Într-un cuvînt, strategia noastră este să utilizăm Ostalgia ca pe o lentilă prin care să examinăm problema viitorului în Germania de Est, un viitor care a fost diluat pînă la nerecunoaştere. Mai curînd, o cunoaştere socială a trecutului estic a devenit mediumul său de comunicare.

Pommefritz este un grup artistic înfiinţat la începutul lui 2004, membrii căruia sunt dornici de provocări şi experienţe fotografice inedite. Intenţia lor este de a evita mesajele şi limbajul fotografiei clasice, prin realizarea unei noi interpretări a unor subiecte mai puţin obişnuite, cum ar fi cabanele italiene vechi, locurile abandonate şi neglijate, unde culorile sunt distorsionate şi alterate cu un efect suprarealist şi oniric.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

Today, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall two Italian photographers photographed some abandoned apartments in the eastern German city of Chemnitz, where time has stood still since the end of the communist era. The photographers are Massimiliano Boschini and Mauro Manuini, founders of Pommefritz Crew.

Through the empty apartments we perceive the past, the history, the people who lived in these places. This photographic project is a tribute to the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany. This project represents our Nostalgia for the East — or ostalgie, a portmanteau combining the words ost (‘east’) and nostalgie (‘nostalgia’) — has taken hold in contemporary, unified Germany. Ostalgie emphasizes the process of longing (algia) that stresses efforts at the recovery of what was lost. This reconstruction is mediated by irony about the past and present that combines widespread feelings of estrangement from the new unified Germany with a longing for the familiar. The memory is anchored in a sense of identity, place and things as material culture. When people are removed from a place and have no-one to remind them of it Pommefritz suggests that they lose the ability to recall the past that occurred there. East Germans who were citizens of the GDR have been invited to forget their past. The traces of the physical spaces that they inhabited, the communist regime which structured their lives, the modernist architecture, products and experiences of the GDR seem to have been relegated from the collective memory of the unified Germany.

Ostalgie: Revaluing the Past, Regressing into the Future, forward to the future, don’t forget the past. In a word, our strategy is to use Ostalgie as a lens through which to examine the problem of the future in eastern Germany, a future that has by no means been dampened beyond recognition. Rather, a certain social knowledge of eastern pastness has become its medium.

Pommefritz is an artistic group, born in the beginning of 2004, who are eager to challenge themselves and share their experiences with their cameras. They intent to escape from the classical messages and means of photography by the realization of a new interpretation of uncommon settings such as old Italian cottages, deserted and neglected places where colors are distorted and corrupted with a surrealist and dreamlike effect.
