“Steagul furat” consemnează/comemorează peste două decenii de Românie post decembristă.
Pleacă de la steagul revoluției române din 1989, sau steagul cu gaură cum a mai fost numit, poate cel mai puternic simbol al acelor timpuri.
Obținută prin tăierea/îndepărtarea stemei și simbolurilor comuniste, gaura din steagul revoluției reprezenta ruperea de vechile structuri – extirparea unui rău suprem național așadar, și, într-un mod simbolic, prin ea se întrevedea o cu totul și cu totul altă Românie, nemaiîntâlnită de nici un român până atunci, o gaură prin care totul putea lua înfățișare și totul era posibil.
Și, într-un fel, așa a și fost.
Azi, singurul lucru care asemuiește România cu un stat de drept, este posibilitatea intervenției polițienești și armate pe teritoriul țării, căci altfel, prea puține lucruri ne mai rămân.
“Până în 2030 rămânem doar cu o gaurâ înfiptă’n băț” – spune vocea rațiunii pe internet.
La mulți ani.

Pentru a sprijini demersul colectivului artistic Monotremu am hotarît să expunem STEAGUL FURAT în fiecare an, de 1 decembrie. În fiecare an gaura tăiată în steag va crește cîte puțin și se va extinde tot mai mult pe suprafața steagului, ocupînd tot mai mult spațiu, pînă cînd acesta va dispărea.

The “Stolen Flag” records / commemorates two decades of post-revolutionary Romania.
It begins with the 1989’s Romanian revolution flag or the flag with a hole (“holed flag”) as it was called, perhaps the most powerful symbol of those times.
Obtained by cutting/ removing the emblem and symbols of communism, the hole in the flag represents the old structure – the removal of a national supreme evil thus. And, in a symbolic way, one could see a completely and totally different Romania through it, unencountered, nor met or heard by any Romanian till then, a hole that could take form and everything was possible.
Yet, somehow, so it was.
Today, the only thing that resembles Romania with a constitutional state is the possibility of police and military intervention in the country, otherwise, too little is left.
“By 2030 we will only be and have a hole set on a stick” – says the voice of reason on the internet.

To support Monotremu’s project we decided to start exhibiting the “Stolen Flag” each year, for the 1st of December. Each year the hole in the flag will grow little by little and will extend on the flag’s surface, occupying more and more space, until the flag will disappear.
